Mini Review: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Originally released in 1991, this has held up well for a game almost as old as me and is brilliant fun to play on the SNES Classic. It’s about 20 hours long (the console’s Suspend Points system is excellent) and has all the favourites like the hookshot & boomerang, heart pieces & boss fights. Controls are great, although switching items through menus can be a bit fiddly. It’s well laid out & has fast travel (if you can work out how to unlock it). I think my only criticism is common to games of that era; some puzzles / hidden items are so obscure that there’s no way to know about them without looking them up, and some puzzles deliberately designed to make you fail the first time you try them.

Nintendo SNES Classic

That’s what a Nintendo Power subscription was for!

Aha! Sneaky business model. Make things impossible to find so you can sell magazines telling people how to find them.

And if Nintendo Power wasn’t enough, you always had the Nintendo Game Counsellors to speak to on the Nintendo Powerline… for a low, low price of $4.99/min or something like that.
