PSA: EVGA GTX 1070s & 1080s Catching Fire

Just in case anyone in StratsCo has one, I just wanted to let people know to contact EVGA if they’ve purchased a GTX 1070 or 1080 from EVGA with the ACX 3.0 cooler.
Their new cooler does not provide appropriate cooling to the VRMs (Voltage Regulation Modules), which causes them to fail and potentially catch fire.

Damn, first Samsung, now EVGA; what the fuck is happening with QA these days?

I jeez, I was just about to put one of these in my buddy’s build.

I know a few of us are running assorted 1080’s around here, but I don’t think anyone got an EVGA one. Sad, really, since they’re typically my go-to for GFX cards.

Cost cutting probably, QA is an easy way to shave money off a product.

hmm, I thought that only worked when you can release a day-1 patch… :unamused:

I’m running a 1080 with ACX. Sad news, but I suspected an issue. I had to remove the side plastic window on my case in order to reduce temps. I normally didn’t have an issue unless I was stress testing. Looks like they are releasing a VBIOS update. Think I will still request the free thermal pads.

Funny how I was going to wait to get an EVGA 1080, but then I saw the ASUS ROG Strix 1080 and had to get the RGB LED’s for the ambiance in my case, lucky for me EVGA was sold out.
